Terms of use and sale

These terms apply to the use of the website https://stalak.app (“Stalak”) and to the Stalak Pro and Stalak Creator Plus subscriptions. Stalak is published by the publisher of the site, a private individual (see the legal notice). Contact: [email protected].

Automatic renewal, in short. Stalak Pro ($7.99/month or $49.99/year) and Stalak Creator Plus ($14.99/month or $99.99/year) renew automatically and you’re charged the same amount at the start of each new month or year, plus any tax, until you cancel. You can cancel online anytime in Account → Manage my subscription, or by emailing [email protected]; it takes effect at the end of the period you already paid for. Full refund within 14 days of any payment.

1. The service

Stalak is a video editing tool that runs in your browser: it cuts your takes to the beat of your song, with on-screen lyrics, and exports videos for social networks. Editing and export happen on your device.

2. Who can use Stalak, your account

Stalak is a general-audience service, open to everyone, with no minimum age. It isn’t directed to children under 13. If you are a minor, ask a parent or guardian before subscribing. You can use Stalak for free without an account. You need an account to subscribe: an email address, and if you want a display name, a photo and a password. You are responsible for access to your email and your password. You can delete your account anytime from the Account page: your account data is then erased and any active subscription is stopped immediately.

3. Plans

Free: unlimited beat-synced editing, full-line lyrics (size M), lyrics import and tap-to-sync, and the free filters. Exported videos carry a watermark (see section 4), which you can remove from a video by watching an ad.

Stalak Pro — $7.99 a month or $49.99 a year: no ads and no watermark, 16:9 music video mode, premium effects, word-by-word and karaoke lyrics in every size, every filter and automatic lyrics (“Auto transcription”: up to 20 a day, a part of 8 minutes at most each).

Stalak Creator Plus — $14.99 a month or $99.99 a year: everything in Pro, plus the pack generator (5 to 30 videos with different cuts, from at least 2 takes), automatic lyrics up to 60 a day, automatic online saving of your projects (up to 100 GB) and “Talk to a human” (live chat when someone is available, otherwise an email reply within 24 hours).

Prices are in US dollars. Sales tax or VAT, if any, depends on where you live and is added by Paddle (section 7); the total is shown before you pay. Outside the US, Paddle may convert the price into your currency; then the amount of a renewal may vary slightly with the exchange rate.

Online saving (Creator Plus): your projects save to your account automatically. A project not opened for 6 months is deleted, after a reminder email sent at least 14 days before. Without Creator Plus (subscription ended, or switch to Pro), your saved projects are no longer accessible, but they are kept until that deletion and come back if you take Creator Plus again.

4. Watermark and rewarded ads

On Free, every exported video carries a small, discreet Stalak logo that jumps to a different spot from time to time. It is added on your device at export. It gives Stalak no rights over your video, and doesn’t mean Stalak has checked or endorses its content.

To remove the watermark from a video without subscribing, you can choose to watch a video ad of about 30 seconds (served by Google). An ad watched to the end removes the watermark from that video only. The watermark is only removed by an ad watched to the end or by a subscription: if you close the ad before the end, or no ad is available at that moment, the video keeps its watermark; you can try again later or subscribe. Watching an ad is always your choice: saying no doesn’t stop you exporting your video with the watermark.

The watermark is part of the free plan: don’t remove, hide or crop it out by other means. With Pro or Creator Plus, there’s no watermark and no ads.

5. Automatic renewal, reminders and price

When you subscribe, you agree that your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period (month or year) and that the payment method you used is charged the price of your plan at each renewal, until you cancel. Before you pay, the checkout shows the price, how often you’ll be charged and how to cancel.

Reminders. After you subscribe, you get an email confirming your plan, the price, how often you’re charged and how to cancel. If you’re on a yearly plan, we (or Paddle) email you 15 to 45 days before it renews. If you’re on a monthly plan, we email you a reminder of your subscription once a year.

You keep your price. As long as your subscription continues without a break, on the same plan and the same billing period, you pay the dollar price you signed up at on every renewal, even if our prices go up. If the amount ever has to change (for example a tax change), we’ll email you 7 to 30 days before it applies, with how to cancel. If you switch plan or billing period, or start a subscription again after cancelling, the price shown at that time applies.

6. Cancelling and switching plans

Cancel anytime, online. Go to Account → Manage my subscription → Cancel. No call, no chat, no questions. You can also email [email protected] from your account’s email address with “cancel” in the subject. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you already paid for; you keep your plan until then and won’t be charged again.

Upgrading (Pro to Creator Plus, or monthly to yearly): the change is immediate. You pay the difference for the time left in your period right away, prorated; the exact amount is shown before you confirm.

Downgrading (Creator Plus to Pro): the change happens at your next renewal. You keep Creator Plus until the end of the period already paid, with no refund of the difference. Going from yearly to monthly isn’t possible in one step: cancel your yearly plan (it runs until the end of the paid year), then take a monthly plan.

When moving from Creator Plus to Pro: online saving follows the rules in section 3, and replies you already got in “Talk to a human” stay readable.

7. Payment by Paddle

Our order process is conducted by our online reseller Paddle.com. Paddle.com is the Merchant of Record for all our orders: it collects payments, handles sales tax, VAT and invoices, and processes payment and refund requests. Your order is also subject to Paddle’s buyer terms.

8. Refunds

You can get a full refund within 14 days of any payment, no questions asked, including the payment for a plan change. Details in the refund policy.

9. What you edit and publish

Your songs, videos and lyrics remain yours: Stalak doesn’t receive them to do the editing. If you use “Auto transcription”, the sound of the chosen part is sent to our service provider to write the lyrics, and is not kept. You must hold the rights to the music and images you use and follow the rules of the networks where you post. Don’t use Stalak for illegal or hateful content, or content that infringes other people’s rights.

10. Availability and liability

We do our best to make Stalak work well on iPhone, Android and computers, but the service is provided “as is”: there may be interruptions or bugs, and ads may not always be available. Keep a copy of your original files. To the extent permitted by law, our liability is limited to the amount you paid for your subscription in the last 12 months. Nothing in these terms limits your rights as a consumer under the law of the place where you live, including your state’s consumer protection laws.

11. Termination

We may suspend an account in case of abuse or breach of these terms (for example ad fraud or getting around the watermark); if a paid subscription is affected through no fault of yours, the unused period is refunded.

12. Changes, governing law

We may change these terms; important changes will be announced by email at least 30 days in advance. These terms are governed by French law, without depriving you of the protection of the mandatory laws of the place where you live (for example your US state’s consumer protection laws). In case of a dispute, please contact us first in writing at [email protected]; we answer within a few days. For a payment question, Paddle.com, our reseller, also answers at paddle.net. If you live in the European Union and the dispute isn’t settled, you can also use a consumer mediator free of charge.
